Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center presents 1 in 500 - a campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness Month in which 500 people take pictures holding up positive messages for victims of sexual assault
I’m in this! I’m there for like a split second, but there nonetheless! I feel so blessed to have been included in this, even for the small contribution I did. SBRCC made this in response to Project Unbreakable which is a photo series of rape victims holding up the messages their rapists said to them. That girl who made Project Unbreakable happen was here at UCSB tonight and we got to meet her! SHE’S ONLY 20 YEARS OLD! So amazing. I am so grateful to have such opportunities to not only learn about these issues, but to go to events like the one tonight and to listen to people’s inspiring stories. It goes without saying that sexual assault is a terrible thing, but it happens so much more than we think and so many people don’t even know how to define sexual assault. Even though these awful things exists, like one of the counselors said, her job is more about hope and turning pain into strength. I’m hoping that during my time off from school I can get involved with something like this!
It’s #DenimDay and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Educate yourself about sexual violence and help fight the battle. #SAAM #SexualAssaultAwareness
